Bergen is one of Norway's most picturesque cities and the best way to explore it is by foot. Although it does have an airport, we chose to reach it by train from Oslo, since the Oslo-Begren train ride is ranked among the most scenic train routes in the world! Once you arrive at Myrdal, you can hop off the train and catch the Flåm -Myrdal train, which is yet another train ride you can't miss! Book your tickets here and here.
Bergen is also the getaway to Norway's prettiest fjords, and it's quite popular among visitors to cruise from Bergen to Flåm (pronnounced Flom) and from there to Gudvangen. Cruising through the fjords equals to experiencing the real Norway, so try to do it at least once in your life. It's truly worth it!
Although Bryggen is the city's most popular area and it's worth spending a few hours exploring it, we also suggest visiting the rest of the city and wander through its fairytale neighbourhoods, where buildings are real life doll houses.
End your day at the Fish Makret, where you can enjoy freshly fished seafood and local beer, for a few (okay a lot of) NOK (=norwegian krone).
Before you get on board, sit back and enjoy our mini Bergen photo diary...
