Ever heard of lake Heviz? Probably not, unless you are Hungarian. So, clue No 1 : lake Heviz is in Hungary. Clue No 2 : it's the biggest thermal lake in the entire Europe!

Clue No 3 : it's located near the city of Heviz and was named after it (or vice versa).

Clue No 4 : it's a 4 hour train ride (or a 2 hour car drive) away from Budapest.

What you see in the picture above is the popular -among locals- Heviz Spa, which is literaly built onto the lake and offers a wide variety of therapies, massages and body treatments, all for quite reasonable fees. The best part of it is that you can swim in the lake and profit by the water's composition which is said to have a healing power.

The lake itself could also be the definition of idyllic, as it is surrounded by a nature conservation area and has a surface temperature warm enough to make you wanna spend your whole day in there. The lake's temperature combined with its natural flora and fauna are the ones which make it have a healing power .

We decided to reach the lake by car, while being based in Budapest, with a quick stoppover at Tihany, a picturesque village located on the boarders of the nearby Balaton Lake. Unfortunately, we only had time to swim in the lake and not to enjoy some kind of a massage or body treatment. We are the only ones to blame for that lack of time, as we honestly didn't want to get out of the lake.

The sense of relaxation we had afterwards was something else!

The simple entrance ticket, which allows you to swim in the lake, costs between 8 and 12 euros per person, depending on how much time you wish to spend in the lake.

FUN TIP: Get your GoPro (or any waterproof camera) with you, along with a selfie stick and take tons of videos while spinning yourslef around in the lake!!!
