Once a summer destination only popular among Eastern Europeans and ideal for low budget vacation, Croatia has quickly turned into one of Europe's most visited countries, with people coming from all over the world to enjoy its beauties.
Indeed, one could claim that Croatia has it all : from rocky beaches and spectacular natural parks to delicious seafood and medieval towns...
The country hosts 7 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, 8 natural parks and more than 1000 islands and islets!
Croatia borders Slovenia, Italy, Hungary, Montenegro and Bosnia Herzegovina, making it an even more popular choice for short trips or even daytrips.
Summer is with no doubt the season when most tourists choose to visit it, in order to profit of the sun and the sea as much as possible!
We decided that in the summer of 2016, our turn to visit the so called adriatic gem had arrived and made Croatia the second stop of our summer roadtrip (you can read more about it here and here).
Zagreb was our first stop. We highly recommend taking the train connection from Ljubljana to the croatian capital, as flights to Zagreb are often quite expensive.
Up next, we headed to the peninsula of Istria, popular for its delicious wines, mysterious caves, cute towns and scenic beaches. Pula, Rijeka, Rovinj and Motovun are only some of the must visit destinations on the Istrian Peninsula in Croatia.
Of course, no visit to Croatia is completed without enjoying the Dalmatian Coast. From Rijeka to Dubrovnik and everywhere in between, this is one of Croatia's most beautiful areas one should visit. We stopped in Zadar, Trogir, Split and Dubrovnik.
Last but not least, somewhere between our adventures on the Istrian peninsula and the Croatian coastline, we also visited the world famous Plitvice Lakes National Park, situated on the eastern side of the country.
