Blessed with both lush greenary and white sanded beaches, Langkawi is one of
Malaysia's most popular island destinations. Wether you're into water sports and jungle-ish adventures or wish to enjoy a few days of relaxation and luxury, you'll find the right place for you on Langkawi.
We went to Langkawi by sea from the nearby island of Ko Lipe, in Thailand and spent three days there, but you can also reach it by airplane. Once you arrive you'll notice the island's lack of public transport, which makes taxis or vehicle rental a necessity.
During our rather short stay we tried to make the most out of our time and today we're sharing with you our top memories...
Driving through the jungle
Sometimes the simplest things in life are the best ones too. Getting wonderfully lost in Langkawi's gorgeous landscapes, was a blast! Rice fields, palm trees and waterfalls are only some of the island's perks that made us wanna stop every two minutes to take a picture.
The Skycab ride
The Skycab is the island's most popular tourist attraction and it's worth visiting if you're anything like us and LOVE beautiful viewpoints. Located near Langkawi's most crowded beach -Pantai Cenang- is the Oriental Village, which is the getaway to the funicular. The ride costed us 55 MYR/adult (almost 11.30 euros) and once we reached the top station, we took a walk on Langkawi's Sky Bridge aka the longest free span and curved bridge in the world. The view was spectacular, to say the very least!
Oh the sunsets!
Another thing that we really enjoyed in Langkawi was the amazing sunsets! Truly spectacular, especially during the rainy season, they literally make the sky look like it's on fire! Wether sunset time finds you on an exotic beach or in a random open air parking lot (true story!) the sky's coulours will blow your mind.
Getting to Tanjung Rhu beach
Located in the northeast part of the island is Tanjung Rhu Beach, famous for its sunsets and crystal clear waters. But what's even more spectacular about this beach is the route we had to take in order to reach it, as we actually drove through lush green jungle.
Romance at Pantai Cenang - La Sal restaurant
Pantai Cenang is the island's most popular beach, as it offers a lot when it comes to water sports and both local and international cuisine. Although this beach was not our favourite one, we really enjoyed spending one romantic evening by the water and most specifically at La Sal restaurant.
La Sal , one of the best restaurants on the island, is actually part of the luxurious Casa del Mar Hotel, but is open for visitors too. Having dinner during sunset, on the beach while being barefoot was definitely one of our trip's highlights and we couldn't recommend it more!
The view from Gunung Raya
Gunung Raya is Langkawi's highest mountain and also home to a big part of the island's flora and fauna. It took us about 30 minutes to drive all the way up to the mountain's peak, where the observation tower is located. With only a small fee of 10 MYR/person (almost 2 euros) not only did we climb up and enjoyed the 360 view, but also sipped some delicious Malay tea!
